batam trip 2010!
Tuesday, March 9, 2010, Tuesday, March 09, 2010

i really have to blog about Batam trip because it holds a memorable experience for me. From the day when i reached there all the way until to the departure station, it cannot be described in words.

The most memorable part i will say is me! Because i fell sick from the first day to the last day of the trip and the feeling is really sucky!

I believe i fell sick after i ate the food at the Golden Prawn restaurant. The food that was served upset my stomach alot which resulted my diarrhoea. After that followed by a series of headache and nausea which took place on the third day.

However, i could not denied that the trip was fabulous! Due to the team work and effort from our class (the hlm student), we managed to repot the plants in St.Teresa with much co-operation and also not forgetting Khali-Fatullah (spelling?), a muslim orphange.

When we reached there in Day 1, we were shocked because the soil is so compacted and the site was relatively hot! We knew that we were faced a lot of difficulty planting at such a challenging site with all the clogged up drains just next to the ground. But, we transformed it into a nice garden, obviously different from what it was like before. And yes, the day was super hot and the amount that we perspired will be enough to fill half of a swimming pool.

We worked non-stop for many hours. To prevent us from dehydrating, we have to drink lots of water. Our course is really tough! But that never stopped us from working..

Even though we have lesser time to interact with the kids from both orphanage, our contribution to the aesthetics of their home is worth a thousand applause! Our hlm students deserved a big pat on the shoulders. And yes, just now i mentioned that we worked very hard for the planting site in Khali-Fatullah right? I got a blue black on my hand and ants bite on my leg; mindy got a sun burnt and there is also a blue black on her thighs. Well for the rest, i think khairi became darker and everyone was exhausted! (and don't forget i was sick! i was having the diarrhoea on all days!)

If really want to describe the fun time that we have, it's not a lot, because i don't know how to play with children and interact with them. Only Estelle, yiying and wani were capable of catching the kids' attention. All the while they really enjoyed playing with the kids. From St.Teresa all the way to Khali- Fatullah. I wasn't going to explain everything in much detail because i am quite lazy!

I have to mention these 2 kids from St.Teresa. One is Demi, whom i took my photos with. His eyes were shining so bright that i took a picture with him. After that, i drew a boy for me. Apparently he did not even bother about it. Trust me, i was very upset.

And there was this girl. She asked me to hold the necklace for her while she went into the toilet to pee. She talked to me in malay or indonesia which i did not understand. Then i heard she said peeing, i knew immediately that she was going to the toilet. So, the reason i mentioned her is because she trusted me! LOL. I think she trusted every teenagers wearing a plain clothes. Surprisingly, she did not pass the necklace to her friends which i wondered is it because of the lack of trust? That leaves me wondering..

Another thing that i want to mention in Khali-Fatullah which i want to say in my reflection for the third day which i did not due to my giddiness on the ferry is when we presented the birthday cake in Khali-Fatullah. This orphange has never celebrated birthday before and it was very saddening. Therefore, we prepared a cake for the children and they were so excited.

The scene that touched me the most was when the children queued up to receive the cake one by one anxiously. Their face, (can i say kiasu-ness?) the feeling of wanting to get the cake touched me completely because this maybe the first time they ate a birthday cake., which was unlike us, we get to celebrate birthday since we were young. I related the example to my younger brother because even he get to enjoy a birthday cake- the delicious and satisfied feeling coming from the heart, that's why i think those kids were really grateful and happy when they ate the cake.

To show that they appreciated what we got for them, 5 or 6 kids performed gymnastics for us. I can only say, they really look like performing parkour for us, with all the turning and human jump. A fabulous performance.

The last day is shopping. Don't need to mention so many things because i bought a lot of things! Ya, before that, we went to karaoke on the third day and that was the day when i puked in the hotel - the tiramisu ice cream treated by Mr Saiful. I did not sing a lot as i was quite sick and on the midst of recovery.

Actually i don't intend to go, but after much tossing and turning in the hotel for 45 minutes, Rowenna said since we have nothing to do (Rowenna was the one who stayed behind to accompany me because she said it's not safe to be alone in the room), why not we go to the karaoke and joined them...

Okay i think i shall stop here. This is a very long post...

we are at the big ferry designated for tourist to have their dinner. This is the place where i actually feel like puking because the inside smelled like kerosene. zz.

Khali-Fatullah. We took a group photo together. They were the kids who received the fruit cake from us. Very lucky!! =D
